Terrible twos??

Maybe?

The past few weeks I have wanted KILL Huey. He got his feet done on a Monday, then pulled a shoe on Tues, then got it back on the next Monday, and then on Weds he pulled his other shoe and got it back on the following Monday. Yes, that's right...two weeks straight of pulling shoes. Not only that but he shredded his sheet into a million and one pieces. Oh and then he ATE three pairs of bell boots. No, he didn't swallow any but he chewed them off. AHHHHH!!!! If only I could truly express my anger. A trade for a less "high maintenance" horse and cowboy training have crossed my mind a few too many times. Thankfully this week has been a success (...for a two yr old)
*knock on wood*

I am finally in town for two weeks straight before our next show so each day I have lunged him and/or ground drove him. He is pretty good! VERY smart. And knows his height and weight can highly be used against me but besides that, he really learns quickly. I always keep him in the side reins because if he chooses to act up, he fights himself over dragging me around the ring like a water skier. He ground drove like a PRO! I was pretty impressed. Lunging is a little slower process but much improvement everyday. It has only been 3 days since we started but we have been able to increase our work load and time to almost 30 minutes. He has a very short quarter, if any. Our challenge is making him continue even if he doesn't want to. He needs to learn to work and put a little effort in. I also have to remind myself he is still very very much a partially broke baby. At least we finally started our program.

I'm going to start taking guesses for his final height. When he arrived in the beginning of November he measured just shy of 16.2hh. I measured him yesterday and he was a TRUE 16.3hh!! I have a couple people thinking he will finish at 17.1hh. I think that sounds reasonable but then again I would be happy with just a nice 17hh even :) We will see!

  3. So cute! The horse I had before Libby, Ollie, was very mouthy. Not bitey but had to put EVERYTHING in his mouth! Maybe its a gray thing?
